Kolbe Assessment

Successful people are those who have found paths that allow them to use their instincts freely.

So what are your instincts?

Instincts are born with us. They are the natural ways we take action. Instincts are the conative part of our mind. Conation is our knack for getting things done – separate from our personality or intelligence.

There are three parts to our mind.

  1. The cognitive part of our mind is about what we know – our skills. These skills change over time based on what we learn and what we forget. This is an area that we can always change – hopefully in a positive way.  Our cognitive mind is about thoughts, learned behaviors, knowledge and skills.
  2. The second part of our mind is the affective – how we feel. The affective part of us is our personality and this also can change over time. Our feelings, emotions, desires and values all play a part of our affective mind.
  3. The third part of our mind is the conative which does not change over time. This part highlights our talents and strengths. We are who we are. Opportunities and problems most often center on conative issues for us – the use or misuse of strengths and instincts. This is our drive.

The good news is that instincts can be measured and defined. They form the most reliable part of you forming your natural advantage for success (how to be creative, how to show leadership, how to work with others, how to take charge of time, how to set and achieve goals). When you understand this incredible asset, you realize you don’t have to change; you just have to use it.

The Kolbe Conative Index A (KCI) measures your conative instincts and outlines how you will take action – or not.
